Incubating Crocodilian Eggs

If you are involved in incubating crocodilian eggs, this course is ideal for you! You may also qualify for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) if you have been doing this a while!

This course will take you through the process of embryo development and steps that can reduce embryo mortality and enhance post-hatching performance.

Electrical stunner certification

This course describes how electrical stunning allows the safe and ethical capture of crocodilians as well as safe work practice, the required safety checks prior to use and, most importantly, the care and welfare of the crocodiles.

Prepare to work with crocodilians

This course will describe the skills and knowledge required to prepare to work with crocodilians, including those working with crocodilians on farms, research facilities, wildlife parks or in crocodilian habitats.

Topics will include anatomy, behaviour, preliminary health and welfare measures, and risk factors of working with crocodilians.

Support hatchery and juvenile crocodilian care

This is a must do course for anyone with the responsibility for hatchlings and juvenile crocodilians! The course will cover all aspects, focusing particularly on welfare, and include hatching, housing, nutrition, behaviour, hygiene, disease management, record keeping and more!

Work safely in crocodilian habitats

This course will describe the skills and knowledge required to work safely in crocodilian habitats. The course will apply to individuals who work in various industries, capacities and roles where crocodilians are found.

The main features of the course are to determine crocodilian behavioural patterns to work safely in crocodilian habitats.

Caring for crocodilians over 1.2 metres

This is a must do course for anyone with the responsibility caring for larger crocodilians! Like the hatchery and juvenile care unit, this course will cover all aspects, focusing particularly on welfare, and include hatching, housing, nutrition, behaviour, hygiene, disease management, record keeping and more!

Harvest crocodilian eggs

Female crocodilians protect their nests so collecting eggs requires risk assessment, planning and a level head! There is also the survival of the embryos within the eggs to also consider. This course will cover these aspects and complement the "Crocodilian Egg Incubation" course.

This course will not include transport operation or safety used to collect crocodilian eggs (eg boats, airboats, helicopters, etc). Check with your local authorities for relevant licences and regulations required to operate these machines.

Monitoring water quality to prevent disease

Clear water doesn't mean pathogen-free. Dirty water doesn't mean pathogen-present. Maintaining optimal hygiene reduces the risk of disease but what water parameters are important? This course will describe water chemistryand microbiology, how to test water to optimise crocodilian health/skin quality and how to set up an effective monitoring program that is right for you!
